Chasing Shadows

On December 11 2010 Markus Stitz is on the road to home. All he has are two wheels, one gear, a ferry ticket from Newcastle to Amsterdam and a flight ticket back to Edinburgh. 14 days and 1350 km later he arrives in time for Christmas at his parent’s house. Without a single fall he has managed to cycle through one of the coldest Decembers since records began and completed an uncivilised journey through some of the most civilised countries of the world. Embarking on a true grassroots trip Markus has no GPS, no map and keeps on cycling despite blistering cold conditions, snow, ice and wind. With the help of pictures and good music he tells his story of an extraordinary trip on a singlespeed bike and talks about his experiences on and off the road, about his motivation to travel and the freedom cycling means for him. Chasing Shadows is the inspirational story of one man’s efforts to chase his own shadow day by day. It’s an homage to cycling and the true freedom it brings, and the proof why happiness sometimes is only one gear away.

Schatten Jagen

Schatten Jagen ist die Geschichte einer inspirierenden Fahrradreise von Schottlands Hauptstadt Edinburgh nach Thüringens Hauptstadt Erfurt, mitten in einem der kältesten Dezember seit Beginn der Aufzeichnungen und mit nur einem Gang. Am 11.12.2010 startete Markus Stitz sein Abenteuer auf zwei Rädern um nach 1350 km durch klirrende Kälte, Schneestürme und Glatteis pünktlich zum Weihnachtsessen zu Hause zu landen. Von Edinburgh führte ihn seine Reise nach Newcastle, um nach der Fährüberfahrt nach Amsterdam durch die Niederlande zu radeln und pünktlich mit Sturmtief Petra den Winter in Deutschland zu begrüßen. Schatten Jagen ist die ergreifende Geschichte einer unzivilisierten Reise durch einige der zivilisiertesten Länder der Welt. Ein Vortrag mit Bildern und guter Musik über Freiheit, Motivation und die Liebe zum Radfahren. Und der Beweis warum ein Gang manchmal genug ist zum Glücklichsein.
