About me

markus pictureKia ora! Wonderful you made it here, and more congratulations by clicking even further than the homepage. You might have come a long way, and so did I. Having lived in Germany for 26 years of my life I decided to explore the world when I finished University, and have been doing that ever since, mostly on two wheels. After twelve years of DJing I needed a change, and found my new passion in cycling and photography. Having lived in wonderful places like New York City and Wellington, New Zealand, I am currently based in Scotland’s capital Edinburgh, commuting to Stirling almost every day to manage the marketing activities of Scottish Swimming.

I love to travel, explore and challenge myself. I really like a lot of things, but cycling was the one thing that kept me going strong for the last years. From crossing the Scottish Highlands from South to North on a mountain bike in 2006 to cycling 4500km spontaneously across New Zealand‘s South Island in 2007 to another trip across Scotland the same year, some shorter trips back in New Zealand and a heavenly two months to try almost every single trail in the South Island, Markus himselfI have packed in heaps of kilometres ever since, mostly in wild and remote areas. Over the last years I have earned some reputation for pushing cycling just a wee bit further than the average person would do, exploring the joys of long distances and severe punishment by cycling in home for Christmas in 2010, one of the coldest December since records began, setting a new best with 424km on one day and most recently doing the epic from Lands End to John o’Groats in 6 days, on a singlespeed bike. I have just returned from yet another adventure, cycling almost 2600km in 13 days to spend Christmas 2011 with family and friends. Not planned I have pushed my personal best to 445km in one go, all with one gear and an appetite for adventure. I am still alive and very well, welcome to the blogosphere of Markus!

I am thankful for the great support from Montane who sponsor me with great equipment, and I am also available for talks, seminars etc. Please get in touch via the contact form to find out more.
